WORLD TRUFFLE AUCTION

Introduced in 1999, the auction is promoted by the Cavour Piedmontese Regional Enoteca in association with the Piedmont Region and the town of Alba. The event is based in the Hall of Masks in Grinzane Castle, and it is linked live by satellite to two other locations abroad (Paris, Hong Kong, Moscow, Las Vegas, London, Munich, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Hollywood have featured in past editions). Five lots of truffles are bid for traditional-style by the guests at each venue, while one special lot presented in the Hall of Masks can be purchased by any of the guests in the three locations. Right from the outset the auction made its mark as an international event destined to make the White Truffle of Alba increasingly celebrated in Italy and throughout the world. The prices achieved by one or more specimens, the celebrities involved, and the originality of the links with famous locations (the restaurants abroad of renowned chefs) have all contributed to establishing the event’s standing. Led by the well-known “gastronaut” journalist Davide Paolini, each year the event has welcomed distinguished guests, including leading personalities from the worlds of entertainment and sport in Italy: Massimo Giletti, Piero Chiambretti, Natasha Stefanenko, Natalia Estrada, Alessandro Del Piero, Adriano Galliani, Giancarlo Magalli, Lamberto Sposini, Jerry Scotti, Ricky Tognazzi and Simona Izzo. The World White Truffle of Alba Auction is not only an exclusive media event though. It represents a “trait d’union” between the world of communication and White Truffle of Alba connoisseurs, and the Associations and Institutions that help the less fortunate through their research and support.
