Over the centuries, the castle has been owned by various noble Piedmontese families, including the Counts Benso di Cavour, whose most famous member was Camillo Benso, a famous hero of the Italian Risorgimento, who lived in the castle and was mayor of the small village of Grinzane.<\/p>\n

His experience as Mayor of Grinzane, a position he held at a young age from 1832 to 1849, is less well known.<\/p>\n

The Count proved to be an excellent administrator, open-minded and modern, introducing major improvements in agriculture and the production of quality wines.<\/p>\n

When you visit the Castle you can see a reconstruction of his bedroom, with authentic furniture, as well as important memorabilia and original documents.<\/p>\n
