Àmpelo Project

The Àmpelo Project (Hospitality for International Markets in Haute Provence and Langhe Roero) was born in 2018 and was developed as part of the Interreg Italy-France ALCOTRA V 2014-2020 European Cross-Border Cooperation Programme. The project aims at developing and increasing the quality of the wine tourism offer of the two areas.

AREAS INVOLVED AND PARTNERS

The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of hospitality and supply in the participating territories: Langhe, Roero and Haute Provence with the production of AOP Pierrevert wine. The project’s cross-border partners are: the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour and the Ente Turismo Langhe Monferrato Roero on the Italian side, the DLVA (Durance Luberon Verdon Agglomération) Tourist Office, located in the Alpes de Haute-Provence area, and the UESS (l’Université Européenne des Senteurs & des Saveurs), a training and research centre in the field of flavours and fragrances. The project is also aimed at wine producers, who are now a key part of the wine tourism chain.

JOINT ACTIONS

The project aims to “increase skills and enhance synergies between tourism operators”, in particular by taking “actions to increase the skills of operators active in the management, conservation and interpretation of natural, cultural and landscape heritage”. To this end, specific targets have been expressed which aim to improve the skills of the tourist industry, experiment with new ways of organising tourism and encourage participatory tourism communication between the local tourist stakeholders. In order to achieve the above-mentioned goals, a number of activities have been programmed to be developed jointly between the partners at cross-border level, specifically and in chronological order:

  • a joint analysis of the wine tourism market with the aim of identifying future trends in international demand and thus shaping the actions of the cross-border partners;
  • the creation of training courses to be carried out jointly by the partners in order to improve the skills of tourism operators in cross-border areas;
  • the creation of collective promotional “tool box” content useful for all tourism operators in the two areas;
  • the creation of experimental wine tourism routes aimed at offering local operators the opportunity to “sell” the Haute Provence and Langhe and Roero destinations through new wine tourism products.

CROSS-BORDER ACTION

The cross-border character of the tourist operators of the two areas, promoting synergies between the tourist operators of the project lies above all in the activities carried out jointly by the partners to improve compulsory/private partnerships.The project involves a series of pilot initiatives aimed at testing educational tourist routes in the two areas.These actions will enable operators “active in the management, conservation and interpretation of the natural, cultural and landscape heritage” to present their local area to wine tourists in a most innovative way. The cross-border character lies in the interest of the partners to cooperate together to identify good practices and methodologies to develop new tourism-economic growth strategies for their respective stakeholders.
