The Alba White Truffle World Auction is back at Grinzane Cavour Castle
ON 14 NOVEMBER, WORLDWIDE CONNECTIONS WITH GRINZANE CAVOUR CASTLE,
FOR THE SOLIDARITY EVENT PROMOTED BY THE ENOTECA REGIONALE PIEMONTESE CAVOUR.
With the onset of autumn comes the natural pairing of the International Alba White Truffle Fair and the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, which is preparing to host the 22nd edition of the Alba White Truffle World Auction within the walls of Grinzane Cavour Castle: the exclusive solidarity event returns on Sunday 14 November. Broadcast live in connection with the main international venues, from Hong Kong to Moscow, Singapore and Dubai – renewing a tradition that has been going on since 1999 -, great chefs and famous personalities from politics, culture, show business and the international jet set will compete for the batches with prestigious specimens of the most precious of the fruits of the earth, the Tuber magnatum Pico, the inebriating Alba White Truffle.
The auctioneers of this edition, connected live from the manor that owes its rebirth to Count Camillo Benso, will be television presenter Caterina Balivo and journalist and gastronomic curator Paolo Vizzari. The special guests connected live with the Langhe will be Chef Umberto Bombana (Three Michelin Stars) from Hong Kong, with his renowned restaurant “8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana”, Chef Davide Corso with the “Bosco Cafe” at the Magazzini Gum, overlooking Moscow’s Red Square, Chef Beppe De Vito, starred chef at the Art Restaurant in the National Gallery in Singapore and, to mark Expo 2021 in Dubai there is Chef Francesco Guarracino at Roberto’s restaurant.
The beneficiaries of this year’s auction – which in the last edition raised a total of 482,000 euros, used to cover the costs of hosting young medical interns coming to Piedmont to support the Covid-19 hospital wards during the pandemic difficult times, and were donated to the “Mother’s Choice” Institute in Hong Kong, the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology in Moscow and the World Food Future in Singapore – will be charity projects identified by the Enoteca Council and its affiliated offices. The Auction, in fact, is non-profit: the proceeds from the sale of the best specimens of the Alba White Truffle are entirely donated to charities in Italy and around the world, with over 5 million euros raised since this initiative was launched.
“After last year’s very special event, at the height of the pandemic, we are pleased to be back with an edition of the Auction in presence also at Grinzane Cavour Castle, which has finally returned to welcome tourists and visitors in complete safety and with record numbers,” – says Roberto Bodrito, President of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour – Together with the mayors of Alba, Carlo Bo, and of Grinzane Cavour, Gianfranco Garau, we are quite confident that also this year solidarity will be great, raising significant funds to be allocated to charity projects all over the world”.
