ON SUNDAY 18 JUNE THE CASTLE OF GRINZANE CAVOUR HOSTED THE EIGHT EDITION OF THE EVENT THAT REWARDS THE COMMITMENT BEHIND VITICULTURAL BEAUTY RECOGNISED AS WORLD HERITAGE SITE OF HUMANITY.  SLOVAKIA AS GUEST OF HONOUR, MANY AWARDS WERE PRESENTED
A moment of reflection and sharing between experts, but above all an opportunity to keep the spotlight on the Unesco recognition that, on 22 June 2014, included the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato wine-growing landscapes among the World Heritage sites. This is the spirit behind the Tribute: "Langhe-Roero and Monferrato: Waves of Beauty and Cultivated Geometries in the Vineyard Landscapes and Villages", now into its eighth edition, which took place on Sunday 18 June at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, home of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour.

Meetings, tastings and debates

The creators behind the viticultural beauty recognised as a World Heritage Site were celebrated, as well as honouring the world's most beautiful or significant wine landscapes. This year, in particular, the vineyard landscapes and wines of the Slovak Republic were honoured, a country characterised by a dynamic wine industry: more than 80 per cent of production has a registered designation of origin or a protected geographical indication. Speakers included Tomáš Chvostek, chef at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Rome, and winegrower Tomáš Besler, representing Tokaj&Co, the most important Slovak winery. During the two days of meetings, there were also plenty of celebrations, official tastings and more general reflections on EU policy thanks to the institutional presence of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Rome and the Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Turin.  

The farmer "symbol of foreigners" was awarded

One of the most emotional moments of the day was the award presented to Djoko Dimov, a Macedonian farmer who arrived in Langa 20 years ago and has never stopped tending the land. He was, in fact, awarded on behalf of the foreign farmers who are indispensable for the survival and growth of the countryside. The programme also included the presentation of awards to the winegrowers and municipalities who, together, look after the most beautiful vine-growing hillsides of Barolo (Rocche dell’Annunziata di La Morra), Barbaresco (Cottà di Neive), Roero (San Michele di Canale), Dogliani (Valdibà di Dogliani), Moscato d’Asti (Valle Bagnario di Strevi), Nizza (Località Crocetta di Mombercelli), Barbera d’Asti (Borgata Quaglia di San Martino Alfieri), Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato (Località Prato Doneo di Grana Monferrato), Alta Langa (Località Caffi di Loazzolo), Timorasso Derthona (Strada Montiroglio di Carezzano e Paderna) and of Gavi (Strada della Chiesa di Rovereto di Gavi).
“This is an event we are very devoted to," explains Roberto Bodrito, president of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, "and which encourages winegrowers to care for the landscape that has been recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site and allows our territory to engage and grow with important wineries around the world. It is important to instil among winegrowers the positive feeling of emulation, which is useful to strengthen the drive towards respect for the landscape and towards beauty”.
